Case of abandoned Moroccan women mobilizes police investigation in Cornélio Procópio A Moroccan woman was found abandoned with her children at the Cornélio Procópio bus station, in the North of Paraná. The Military Police (PM) reached the woman after a colleague of hers, also Moroccan, reported the case. A man who allegedly offered shelter to them in the state and, after appropriating their money, evicted them, is being investigated by the Civil Police (PC-PR). His name was not released by police. According to police chief Adriano Diogo, he is not under arrest, but is being investigated for bodily injury, damage and embezzlement, heightened by the vulnerability of the victims. ? Follow g1 Londrina and the region on WhatsApp The case happened last Monday morning (23). According to the delegate, each one was heard separately, with the help of a translator. "There were convergent testimonies, citing practically the same thing regarding the conduct of this person under investigation, which is why he will be indicted for the crimes," said Adriano. Police are investigating a man who promised help to Moroccan women and abandoned them at a bus station in PR. Reproduction/Google Street View One of the victims said that she and her son were attacked by the man and had her cell phone damaged by him. After being rescued, the women and children – a 1-year-old girl and two boys, 3 and 7 years old – were taken to a municipal shelter in Cornélio Procópio, where they are receiving psychosocial support. According to the delegate, the man is also Moroccan and had recently arrived in Brazil. The investigation showed that there is evidence that he promoted illegal migration and the crime will be investigated by the Federal Police. Victims were deceived with promises of a better life Police chief Adriano explained that one of the women, aged 27, came to Brazil with a child in April. She spent time in a refugee community in São Paulo. Initially, she had a tourist visa and could not stay in the country for more than 90 days. In testimony, the woman said that she met the man online and was attracted after he promised that he would help her regularize her immigration situation in Brazil. He also offered her son a job, housing and school in Paraná. The same happened to another woman, who arrived in the country with two children, around 20 days ago. According to the delegate, the man made the same promises to her. Soon after, the two traveled together by bus and arrived in Paraná, where they stayed in a house supposedly rented by the man. "They did not enter [Brazil] with refugee status and this individual promised to obtain refugee status so that they could stay permanently in the country. [...] According to the statements, after gaining their trust, the person being investigated began to demand amounts for supposed services, appropriating approximately R$7,000 from the victims, in addition to expelling them from the residence where they were staying," said the delegate. After that, it was found that he picked up the two women and took them to the bus station. However, during the journey, one of the women questioned his conduct, and she and her son were attacked by him. According to the delegate, it was after that that she got out of the car and decided to look for the Military Police. "He took one of them with two children, without any money, without anything, took her to the bus station and left her there, to her own devices, so that she could manage, without speaking the country's language, without money and with two children. He took the other separately and during the journey the other questioned his conduct and today he ended up attacking this other woman with her son too, damaging her cell phone device, when she then went to the Military Police company to ask for help", informed the delegate. The man under investigation gave a statement and said he only wanted to help women. The man gave a statement to the police and denied the accusations. According to the delegate, the suspect stated that he just wanted to help the women, who were starving on the streets of São Paulo. "He said that, in reality, one of them, who is the sister of a friend of his, asked for help to come here [Paraná] and even showed some documents and payments that he made to pay for their trip. But his version is quite contradictory. [...] He claims that he wanted to help, but the way he treated them is completely contrary", said the delegate.
