More than 100 books by black authors are donated and thematic library is inaugurated in Campina Grande Disclosure Campina Grande, in Agreste da Paraíba, received a new thematic library after the donation of more than 100 books by black authors. The library was inaugurated last Thursday (23) as part of the Julho das Pretas action and brings together works by reference authors for the debate on race and gender, such as Conceição Evaristo and Djamila Ribeiro. TEIA (Territory of Writings, Identities and Ancestralities), Thematic Library of Black Women's Literature, emerged from the donation of professor and journalist from Paraíba Carla Borba, who chose to celebrate 30 years of completing the Journalism course at the State University of Paraíba (UEPB) by donating part of a collection built over the years. ? The titles are also divided between national and foreign authors, creating the possibility of expanding knowledge in different genres. For the journalist, works need to circulate to generate new connections between readers. "Books need to circulate. For years, I have been collecting works by black authors that have influenced my training, my research, the formulation of my classes on ethnic-racial relations and also my way of understanding the world. Sharing this collection, especially with a collective reading initiative, is allowing these works to continue producing encounters, questions and new connections", says Carla Borba. The choice of the month to open the library is also related to Julho das Pretas, an initiative that seeks to mobilize intellectual debate by black writers and thinkers. Varied topics covering subjects such as race, gender, education and culture are covered by the examples. The official inauguration of the library took place last Thursday (23) and brought together representatives from different segments of society such as teachers and researchers. The place will be open to the general public from the first week of August, in a house on Rua Grisbert de Oliveira Gonzaga, in the Velame neighborhood, in Campina Grande, from 2pm to 6pm.
