The Argentine president was accompanied by his delegation: Karina Milei, secretary general of the Argentine Presidency, Pablo Quirno Magrane, minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship, and Luis María Kreckler, consul general of Argentina in São Paulo.
To welcome Milei, the São Paulo government replaced the traditional red carpet with a blue one, in reference to the so-called "blue wave", an expression used by right-wing leaders to describe the advancement of this political field in South America. According to the palace's advisors, the change in color was also a way of paying homage to Argentina with the color of the country's flag.
After the reception, they entered the São Paulo government headquarters for the ceremony and an informal meeting between Milei and Tarcísio. There, the Argentine president received the Order of Ipiranga, the highest honor granted by the State of São Paulo to personalities who provided relevant services to the State. The award ceremony was held in a closed manner.
After the visit to Palácio dos Bandeirantes, Javier Milei will head to the PL convention, scheduled to start at 11 am, which formalizes Flávio Bolsonaro's candidacy for the Presidency, in Pacaembu.
The Argentine is one of the senator's main international supporters. At the end of June, he received Flávio in Buenos Aires and stated on social media that the "blue wave" would reach Brazil at the hands of the eldest son of former president Jair Bolsonaro.
Milei's closeness to the Bolsonaro family contrasts with the relationship marked by friction that he maintains with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). Since the 2023 Argentine presidential campaign, the Argentine has attacked the PT member and strengthened ties with opponents of the Brazilian government.
There is no forecast of a meeting between Milei and Lula on this trip. The Argentine president intended to visit Jair Bolsonaro, but minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), denied the request for the former president, under house arrest, to receive his ally.
