According to the municipal administration, 11,837 children up to 4 years of age have pending immunization registration. The number represents 19.2% of the public in this age group registered in the city's Unified Health System (SUS). The concern occurs because the state of São Paulo has already confirmed 15 cases of the disease in 2026, involving babies under one year old and adults over 50 years old. Campinas has not recorded infections with the virus since 2021 and, last year, it achieved 98.3% coverage for the first dose of the MMR vaccine. ? The focus on the age group from 0 to 4 years is because it is the group with the highest risk of worsening the disease. "Measles is an extremely contagious disease. Prevention is the vaccine. These susceptible children, without the complete schedule, without having two doses of the vaccine, have a high risk of becoming infected if this virus is reproduced here in our municipality, and infecting several other people", says Chaúla Vizelli, coordinator of the Immunization Program. "When returning to school, when children tend to stay in more closed environments, the risk of transmission is very high. We don't want the disease to arrive, which is why we are so proactive in looking for these truant children and updating the vaccination schedule." Actions and multi-vaccination To prevent the virus from circulating again, the municipality will actively search for children with late vaccinations and promote immunization actions in schools. A multi-vaccination campaign will begin on Monday (3), with doses administered at Campinas Shopping on the 8th and "D-Day" scheduled for August 22nd.
