According to the former deputy, the request made by the President of the Republic was justified by the understanding that the party must concentrate its efforts on a single candidacy. "Everyone knows that we are trying to build a candidacy for the Senate of the Republic, but we received a call from President Lula to, in the name of unity, withdraw this candidacy" ? Join the g1 AM channel on WhatsApp During this Saturday's convention, the federation formalized its support for the candidacy of Eduardo Braga (MDB), who is running for re-election to the Senate from Amazonas. In July, Ramos signaled in a post made on social media that the change in understanding regarding his candidacy for the Senate occurred following a request from Senator Eduardo Braga (MDB) to the PT's national directory. The assessment is that the two candidacies together could favor the election of opposition candidates to President Lula. With the withdrawal of his candidacy for the Senate, Marcelo Ramos also informed that he will not run for any position in this year's elections, but that he will be united with the party to strengthen support for candidates from the Brasil da Esperança federation. "First I want to say that the fact that I am not a candidate in this election will not keep me one millimeter away from participating in the campaign. Count on me, let's fight, and I am sure that the next step in this journey is the celebration of a beautiful victory", he stated. Pre-candidacy had been made official In May this year, the PT State Directory in Amazonas unanimously made Marcelo Ramos' pre-candidacy for the Senate official during an extraordinary meeting held in Manaus. At the time, the party informed that the choice endorsed the decision of the State Executive Commission and that Ramos would represent the party's political project in the dispute for one of the two seats in the Senate in 2026.
