Man is sentenced to 18 years for killing his partner in front of their children in Arame Reproduction The Arame Jury Court, 476 km from São Luís, sentenced Fernando Sousa da Silva to 18 years in prison for the murder of his partner, Izene dos Santos Silva. The crime was committed in August 2013, inside the family's residence, during a marital argument and in the presence of the couple's minor children. The victim was hit by a shotgun blast. During the trial, the Sentencing Council accepted the thesis of the Public Ministry of Maranhão (MPMA), recognizing the materiality, authorship and qualification of the futile motive. ? "In theory, the case would receive this framework today. However, it cannot be retroactive, which is why the accused was tried and convicted of qualified homicide for futile reasons", he highlighted. In the sentence, judge Rafael de Lima Sampaio Rosa highlighted that the circumstances of the crime caused the disruption of the family nucleus and left the four children permanently deprived of their mother's coexistence. After the crime, the accused fled and remained hidden for more than ten years. He was only located and arrested in 2024, a circumstance that contributed to the delay in completing the process. The convicted person must serve his sentence in an initial closed regime.
