According to the Municipal Health Department (SMS), the man was welcomed by a nurse during the screening and informed that he should wait for care. The SMS reported that the man later returned to the unit seeking assistance, but remained there for a short time and was never attended to. According to the ministry, there is no confirmation that he threatened employees at the unit. In a statement, the Municipal Health Department stated that it repudiates any type of violence, "especially in the municipality's health services, which provide such an indispensable welcome to the residents of Natal". The case must be investigated by the responsible authorities.
