The new Master Plan was once again the topic of a meeting at the Maceió City Council. The councilors attended a presentation by the Maceió Urban and Environmental Research, Planning and Licensing Institute (Iplam) and were able to ask questions about the legislation. According to the secretary-president of Iplam, Alessandro Lemos, one of the main objectives of the Plan is to make Maceió a compact and functional city, encouraging the creation of enterprises and giving purposes to abandoned properties in neighborhoods that already have a high rate of construction. To guide the councilors, Iplam's technical director, Paula Rangel, indicated which neighborhoods these are, and they are located in the so-called ZACs, or Controlled Density Zones, which encompasses much of the seafront, Farol, Jacintinho, Cruz Das Almas and continues towards the upper part, up to Santa Lúcia and Antares. Other areas can also be occupied, but with different rules. The Center and Jaraguá, for example, are Special Cultural Preservation Zones, and were the regions most mentioned at the meeting, due to the interest of both the City Hall and the Chamber in revitalizing the space. Secretary Alessandro Lemos highlighted that the ideal reality is to create self-sufficient neighborhoods, that is, that have residential and commercial infrastructure so that people travel as little as possible on a daily basis. "Self-sufficient neighborhoods are necessary so that the city does not collapse. It is always interesting to see other cities where this already happens, but thinking about what kind of city we want", he said. The meeting marks the beginning of discussions on the Master Plan in the Chamber, which will also be debated in public hearings. Currently, the text is under analysis by the Constitution and Justice Commission.
