See which states stood out in the Ideb for secondary education, released this week. The municipal public network of Rio Branco had the second best result among the country's capitals in the Basic Education Development Index (Ideb) for elementary education in the initial years (1st to 5th year), released this Wednesday (5), with a score of 6.8 in 2025. With the index, the capital of Acre was behind only Teresina and Curitiba, both tied for first place with 6.9. ? Join the g1 AC channel on WhatsApp The result is calculated based on school approval data and performance averages obtained from the Basic Education Assessment System (Saeb). In Rio Branco, there was an increase compared to the previous data, from 2023, which had been 6.4. Acre's capital had the second best performance of the capitals in primary education in the initial years Secom/Rio Branco With the score obtained last year, the capital of Acre had the best index in 20 years, rising from 4.1 in 2005. At a regional level, Rio Branco had the best score in the North, ahead of Manaus, which got 6.4. Ideb 2025 of Northern capitals What makes up Ideb? The index crosses two pieces of information and presents results on a scale that goes from 1 to 10: approval rate/school flow (the percentage of students who did not repeat a year); Saeb notes, a Portuguese and mathematics test taken by students in the 2nd, 5th and 9th year of elementary school and by students in the 3rd year of high school. Brazilian and international experts argue that failure, when it occurs indiscriminately, considerably increases the risk of adolescents dropping out of school. It is more effective, for example, to implement learning recovery systems, so that young people can progress without gaps in knowledge. In short, it is not enough to pass the student to the next year: it is necessary to ensure that they are learning. Better developments In the general scenario, there are cases of networks that showed real progress: Rio Grande do Sul, which jumped from 3.9 to 4.7 in Ideb, despite also having changed the approval rules, recorded consistent gains in students' proficiency in mathematics (from 273.70 to 282.88) and in Portuguese (from 281.07 to 291.94). The same happened with Piauí, where growth in Saeb was one of the most significant, enough to elevate the state to the second highest Ideb in the country at this stage. The Alagoas and Minas Gerais networks also stood out for a more consistent recovery in both flow and Saeb scores. Paraná, which already had good numbers in 2023, continues as a national leader, reinforces the NGO Todos Pela Educação. "The state of Paraná stands out for achieving the highest Ideb among public networks at all stages. Looking only at the learning indicator [Saeb], the state also has the best result", states the institution's analysis. States with biggest setbacks in the Saeb Some states (in addition to the DF) registered a drop in their averages in the Saeb, with emphasis on reductions in Portuguese: Amapá: Had the most pronounced decline in the general average, falling from 254.36 to 253.39 in mathematics and from 264.77 to 261.24 in Portuguese. Rio de Janeiro: There was a decline in both areas, with the Portuguese grade falling from 258.09 to 254.76 and the mathematics grade from 252.19 to 251.53, as mentioned above. Federal District: Recorded a drop in mathematics (from 262.61 to 260.63) and in Portuguese (from 268.94 to 268.17). It was the only federative entity with a reduction in Ideb (- 0.1). Rondônia: Also showed a decline, with mathematics going from 264.91 to 263.64 and Portuguese from 268.64 to 268.23. VIDEOS: g1
