Levy Bonfim DISTRIBUTION MEDIA - TRENDING Reproduction/Social media Nutritionist and bodybuilder Levy Bonfim, who was run over while running in Arapiraca, narrowly avoided suffering a spinal cord injury that could have left him quadriplegic. The information was confirmed to g1 this Friday (31) by his wife, doctor Fernanda Vasconcelos. ?Join the g1 Alagoas channel According to Fernanda, Levy fractured some vertebrae, including some in the cervical region, but the spinal cord was not affected. He is conscious, moves his arms and legs and has no motor deficits. "It really was a delicate injury, which almost caused a spinal cord injury. If it had reached the spinal cord, it could have left him quadriplegic, not paraplegic", he explained. The doctor also denied rumors on social media that there was exactly one centimeter left for the spinal cord to be reached. According to her, it is not possible to confirm this distance. "This information of one centimeter is not true. It was an important injury that almost missed the spinal cord, but it wasn't exactly one centimeter", he stated. Nutritionist is run over while running on Av. Ceci Cunha, in the center of Arapiraca Health status and surgery Levy was transferred to Hospital Veredas, in Maceió, where he will undergo surgery on his cervical spine. The procedure will be carried out in two stages, on different days. The first stage is scheduled for Monday (3). The date for the second will still be defined by the medical team, as, according to Fernanda, the surgery is delicate. "The prognosis is good. Generally, the patients progress well. He has no motor deficit, he moves his arms and legs, he is conscious and at no point was he at risk of death," he said. In addition to the cervical fractures, Levy suffered fractures in the foot and pelvis. According to the wife, these injuries will not require surgery and will be monitored by doctors. The exams also identified an epidural hematoma in the skull region. The hematoma will not require surgery, as it is being reabsorbed by the body, explained the doctor. Dynamics of the collision The collision occurred between 6am and 6:30am on Tuesday (28), while Levy was crossing a section of Avenida Ceci Cunha, in the Itapoã neighborhood, in Arapiraca. The moment was recorded by a friend of the victim, who filmed the race. With the impact, the nutritionist was thrown. A team from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) provided first aid and took Levy to the Agreste Emergency Hospital (HEA). Afterwards, he was transferred to Maceió. The driver of the car (a white BYD Dolphin Mini) involved in the collision spontaneously presented himself to the Traffic Accidents and Offenses Police Station, in the Center of Arapiraca. After giving a statement, he was released. Fernanda said that friends are following the legal developments in the case. According to her, what touched the family most was the fact that the driver did not provide assistance after the accident. The Civil Police analyzes images from security cameras to clarify the dynamics of the accident.
