How the scam worked According to investigations, the suspects were able to access personal data and information from legal proceedings of victims in several regions of Brazil, mainly in the South and Central-West. With this data, criminals called clients posing as the real lawyers of the cases. To deceive victims, the gang used phones with the same area code (DDD) as the client's state and sent falsified documents with real data from legal actions. The objective was to convince people to make bank transfers, such as payments via Pix, to criminals' accounts.
