Grandfather and 4-year-old granddaughter die after car catches fire in Quissamã A 59-year-old man and his granddaughter, Alice Melissa Sales Couto, 4 years old, died after the car they were in hit a pole and caught fire on Thursday afternoon (23), on RJ-196, between Quissamã and Barra do Furado, in North Fluminense. The accident occurred near the Sítio Quissamã neighborhood, close to Creche Júlia Pessanha. The two victims succumbed to their injuries and died at the scene. The child's grandmother and the driver's wife were also in the vehicle. She was rescued by a team from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) and taken to the Macaé Public Hospital. ? She suffered spinal fractures and remains hospitalized, under the supervision of the neurosurgery and orthopedics teams. The Civil Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident and are awaiting the results of the investigation to clarify what caused the collision. Commotion in the city The death of Alice Melissa caused commotion in Quissamã. The girl was a Pre I student at Escola Municipal Professora Regina Celi Passos. In a note published on social media, Quissamã City Hall lamented the student's death and offered solidarity to her family, friends, teachers, classmates and the school community. "In this moment of immense pain, we sympathize with her family, friends, classmates, teachers and the entire school community. May God grant comfort and peace to the grieving hearts of her family and Alice's school friends, strengthening everyone in the face of this irreparable loss", says the note.
