The measure meets a requirement made by the State Court of Auditors (TCE), through Decision No. 787/2026. AMMPLA emphasized that the repeal of the ordinance does not cancel the implementation of the tracking system. This is an administrative adjustment to comply with TCE rules regarding the planning and execution of the measure. The requirement for equipment in the taxi fleet had started on July 22nd. The recommendation was that the free installation take place by August 24th.

After completing the action plan and defining the new schedule, the municipality will publish guidance to permit holders on the system installation steps. The GPS requirement is part of the process of modernizing individual passenger transport in the city. The objective of the measure is to increase safety, transparency and efficiency in the provision of taxi services. With the future installation of the devices, the municipality will be able to monitor trips in real time.
