Speaking to EPTV, an affiliate of TV Globo, one of the truck's occupants stated that a tire on the vehicle burst, which caused it to roll over. Because of this, both lanes of the road had to be closed, and traffic was diverted onto a dirt road. Despite this, there were no records of congestion on the stretch.
