To date, he has not been located by the police. The Court had revoked his arrest after understanding that the Public Prosecutor's Office did not present the complaint within the legal deadline and agreed to an extension considered incompatible with the deadlines set out in the Code of Criminal Procedure. According to judge Rogério Monteles, from the 1st Criminal Court of Timon, the delay in presenting the complaint removed the justification for maintaining preventive detention. He highlighted that the deadline requested by the police and accepted by the Public Prosecutor's Office exceeded the limits established by procedural legislation. He had initially been arrested on May 27, suspected of raping a three-year-old child who is a student at the daycare center where he was deputy director. Man allegedly claimed at least six victims Police investigate new victims in case of sexual abuse in daycare center in MA The Civil Police of Maranhão (PC-MA) investigate whether six children, aged 2 and 3, were victims of sexual violence at the Vila João Reis Municipal Daycare Center, in Timon. The investigation progressed after mothers went to the city police station, following the arrest of former assistant director Alberto Luiz Freitas Monção, aged 49. The case began with a 3-year-old child, a daycare student. According to the police, the violence was confirmed by an expert report. In an interview with Mirante News, delegate Lorena Alves, head of the Timon Special Women's Police Station, said that several mothers sought out the unit after the case was publicized. The delegate stated that there are reports of new possible victims. Among them are boys with behavioral changes and two girls who, according to their families, may show physical signs. “The boys, males, have shown different behavior in recent days, according to what their mothers said. (...) And, regarding the girls, there is already news of two girls as well, that we will possibly find some materiality, because they would be injured”, stated Lorena Alves. Cameras show children taken to storage Daycare cameras show assistant director taking abuse victim to storage Daycare camera footage shows the assistant director taking the victim and another child to an isolated, unsupervised storage room. According to police, they stayed there for a few minutes. The suspicion is that the former assistant director frequently removed children from the classroom and took them to the storage room, under the pretext of delivering toys or allowing the use of cell phones. So far, other employees have been heard as witnesses, and not as those being investigated, according to the delegate. The situation, however, may change during the investigation. "There is still a lot to verify: participation, omission, who already knew, how these children were removed from the room without anyone noticing or hearing and not reporting it. So, all of this will be investigated", said the delegate. The images should help identify dates and times when children were taken to the location, according to the delegate. The investigation remains confidential to protect the victims. Daycare center management was removed Timon City Hall reported that Alberto Luiz Freitas Monção was dismissed from his position. The entire management of the daycare center was also removed until the end of the investigations, and the municipality ordered immediate intervention in the unit. According to the municipal secretary of Education, Isadora Rodrigues, the daycare center will be monitored by a team from the department. Classes should resume on Monday (1st). A psychologist will also monitor the employees and provide support to the children's parents. The secretary informed that the public servant, who has worked in the municipality for 11 years, had no previous complaints, neither when he worked as a teacher nor as an assistant director. According to the secretary, families receive legal, psychological, psychosocial and social support. The responsible bodies were called and are accompanying both the victims and other families in need of support. The daycare center serves 205 children, aged 2 to 3 years old. The municipality also offers legal, psychological and psychosocial support to families.
