This required a retotalization by the Electoral Court — a new calculation to redistribute seats whenever there is a change in the total number of valid votes. Paulão is 68 years old, born in Recife (PE) and is known for his work in the trade union movement and his career in the Workers' Party (PT) in Alagoas. Before entering political life, he was vice-president of the Maceió Industrial Technicians Association (1982-1983), advisor to the former Alagoas Electricity Company (1986-1987), president of the Alagoas Urban Workers Union (1987-1993) and president of the Central Única dos Trabalhadores (CUT) in Alagoas (1996-1997). In the Chamber of Deputies, he served four terms. The first three were consecutive, between 2011 and 2019. The fourth began in 2023, but was interrupted with the loss of his mandate, made official on Thursday night (9), after the recount of the votes in the 2022 elections. Among the functions carried out by Paulão in the Chamber were the vice-leadership of the PT and the Brazilian Federation of Hope, the secretariat of the Bancada Negra and acting as a member of the Mercosul Parliament (Parlasul) and the Latin American Parliament (Parlatino).
