When the emergency situation is recognized, municipalities have access to federal resources intended for the response and recovery of areas affected by natural disasters, with the exemption from bidding for the contracting of goods and services. Emergency recognition allows cities to receive financial assistance for emergency measures, such as sending assistance kits, restoring essential services and recovering small infrastructure. After approval of the work plans presented by the municipalities, the federal government may authorize the transfer of resources for relief actions, assistance to affected families and reconstruction of infrastructure compromised by the rains. Currently, Rio Grande do Sul is facing an episode of intense rain. There are 1,800 people outside their homes. The most recent report from the state Civil Defense, released on Thursday night (23), brings together reports of damage in 203 municipalities, with records of flooding, floods, landslides, road interruptions, damage to homes and preventive evacuation of residents.
