Father says his son had his second bicycle stolen in less than a year Resident of Ipiranga, in the north of Ribeirão Preto (SP), Joaquim Pereira da Silva says that his 17-year-old son had his second bicycle stolen from in front of his house in less than a year. The most recent case, according to him, occurred a week ago. "There was just one man coming down on foot. He grabbed his hand and ran away. (...) It hurts my heart", says the property security agent. The animal survived, but was hospitalized in serious condition. No suspects were arrested. In a statement, the Public Security Secretariat (SSP/SP) informed that policing will be intensified in the region, with preventive patrols. The ministry also reported that, between January and June this year, there was a drop in robberies and thefts in Ipiranga thanks to work to combat crime. "During the period, 1,868 offenders were arrested or apprehended in the city." Reproduction/EPTV 'He came crying' Resident of Travessa Seabra, Silva says that, in the first robbery, his son's bicycle was taken by three robbers even though he was just a few meters from his house. "He came crying because he took his bike. I paid 750 [reais]." The father claims that, after that, he bought a used bicycle for his son, but, once again, the teenager was the victim of thieves. "It's the second bike stolen from him within a year, here in Travessa Seabra." According to him, there is a lack of more monitoring on the neighborhood's streets, especially at night.
