With the new adjustment, the total purchase value reached R$902.12 and started to compromise 55.7% of the minimum wage in force in the country, established at R$1,621. ? A survey carried out by the PUC-Campinas Observatory shows that the so-called "minimum necessary wage" — income considered sufficient to purchase three basic food baskets — rose to R$ 2,706.36. The main responsible for the monthly increase was beans, which registered an increase of 13.93%. This increase has to do with supply restrictions: both due to harvest issues and climatic factors, bean production decreased, which put pressure on prices. According to the economist at Observatório PUC-Campinas, Pedro Costa, although the increase in the price of beans was significant in June, the movement had already been occurring throughout the year. The difference is that, this month, it attracted more attention because other items did not rise as much. "It's not a one-off. It's an increase that has been built throughout the year. On the other hand, there is an expectation — an expectation conditioned by climate issues — that when new harvests begin in July, [bean] prices will stabilize and fall a little more again," he explained. In addition to beans, bananas, with an increase of 4.82%, and sugar, with 3.24%, contributed to the increase. In June, the commitment to the minimum wage was the highest in the last 12 months. The percentage has continued to rise since March of this year. In this section, the variation in the price of the basic food basket in Campinas is 11.35%. According to the survey, the index reflects the acceleration in the cost of food throughout the first half of the year, moving away from the stability trend that had been observed at the end of 2025. Year-to-date From January to June 2026, the price of the basic food basket in Campinas was 15.24% more expensive. According to the research, since the beginning of the year, some foods have driven this increase intensely: Potatoes: 95.36% Tomatoes: 87.07% Beans: 42.01% Milk: 28.94% On the other hand, some products became cheaper throughout the semester. Bananas attract attention: even though they helped to boost prices in June, since January they have accumulated the biggest drop, of ?14.52%. Coffee was also more affordable, with a reduction of ?10.36%, and sugar fell by ?9.71% in the period. How does climate change affect the price of food? Above the capitals of the Southeast region Despite the growth, the pace of evolution was more moderate than that recorded in May.
