Court determines improvements in municipal hospitals in Imperatriz The Maranhão Court determined that improvements be made to infrastructure and service conditions at the Municipal Hospital of Imperatriz (HMI) and the Municipal Children's Hospital of Imperatriz (HMII). The decision is made by judge Ana Lucrécia Bezerra Sodré. The judge recognized the advances made in health units, but highlighted that recent judicial inspections and technical reports indicated that Imperatriz's municipal hospitals still need improvements in infrastructure and organization of services. The action was filed by the Public Ministry of Maranhão (MPMA) and the State Public Defender's Office (DPE-MA), after inspections started in 2023 highlighted serious deficiencies in the hospitals. ?Click here to follow the g1 MA channel on WhatsApp Among the problems highlighted in the sentence are structural and sanitary deficiencies, such as infiltration, the presence of mold in wards, exposed electrical wiring and the banning of the hospital elevator by the Fire Department. The decision also cites episodes of overcrowding, delays in care and the need to reorganize the risk classification flow. In relation to the professional staff, the existence of precarious relationships in functions that must be occupied by permanent employees, such as nurses and nursing technicians, was identified, in addition to absences in physiotherapy and nutrition shifts. Since the beginning of the process, the Court has monitored the carrying out of renovations in wards, the acquisition of X-ray equipment and a CT scanner, in addition to the implementation of ten new beds in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), authorized by the Ministry of Health. Justice establishes obligations for the municipality To guarantee the continuity and quality of services provided in hospitals, the sentence determined that the City of Imperatriz must keep payments to input suppliers and service providers up to date, in addition to presenting a schedule for the payment of any outstanding debts. Municipal management must also develop and execute a detailed contingency plan to guarantee the quality of assistance and reduce the impacts of possible situations of lack of assistance. Another determination is the official publication of the list of exams, surgeries and other services offered, as well as the actual number of active employees. The Court also prohibited the reduction in the number of health professionals and the total number of operational beds made available to the population. Request to create a crisis office is denied The judge denied the request presented by the Public Ministry and the Public Defender's Office for the creation of an interinstitutional crisis office. According to the decision, the advances made during the course of the action, combined with the continuous supervision of professional councils, such as the Regional Medicine Council (CRM) and the Regional Nursing Council (Coren), are sufficient, at this moment, to monitor the management of municipal hospitals. Failure to comply with court orders may result in the application of sanctions to the municipality. What do the authorities say? In a statement, the City of Imperatriz reported that, since the beginning of the current administration, there have been no shortages of medicines and supplies or interruption of services in the municipal Adult and Children's hospitals. The city hall also stated that 40 beds at Socorrão and 20 beds at the Municipal Children's Hospital were revitalized and re-equipped. Furthermore, the restructuring of a ward in the emergency room at the Municipal Adult Hospital was completed. The municipality also declared that it will comply with all court orders within the established deadlines. Court orders improvements in municipal hospitals in Imperatriz Reproduction/TV Mirante
