Court condemns ANTT for traffic chaos in SC's economic hub with port, luxury tourism and skyscrapers NSC TV/Reproduction The Federal Court ordered the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) to pay R$9 million in compensation to nine municipalities on the North Coast of Santa Catarina because of the daily congestion recorded on BR-101, between Balneário Camboriú and Penha. The region is an economic hub for the state and is recognized for its port, luxury tourism and for having some of the tallest skyscrapers in the country. According to the decision, the situation has affected the quality of life of those who interact daily with the highway (see below). ?Click and follow the g1 SC channel on WhatsApp The amount must be paid equally to the municipalities of Penha, Balneário Piçarras, Navegantes, Itajaí, Camboriú, Balneário Camboriú, Itapema, Porto Belo and Bombinhas. Three of these cities (Itapema, Balneário Camboriú and Itajaí) are in the national ranking with the most expensive m² in Brazil (see details of the cities below). ? ANTT is a Brazilian government body responsible for the rules, supervision and control of the country's highways, railways and cargo and passenger transport. The 40 km stretch is managed by the concessionaire Arteris Litoral Sul, which said it will not comment on the decision. Tuesday's ruling (21) also obliges ANTT to present measures to improve traffic in the region. The decision complies with actions taken by the City of Penha and the Association of Municipalities of Foz do Rio Itajaí. There is an appeal. The dealership reported that approximately 55,000 vehicles pass through the crossing per day. This estimate is made considering the flow of the toll plaza in Barra Velha and the next plaza, in Porto Belo. ANTT is fined R$9 million In the sentence, judge Moser Vhoss stated that the region's economic activity loses agility and has more costs due to congestion. This affects both cargo transport between the ports of Navegantes and Itajaí and professional and tourist flights from Navegantes airport. For the Court, the delay in solving the problems has caused “discomfort, anxiety, irritation and psychological uneasiness relevant to a considerable portion of the population who experience daily life on the highway”, wrote the magistrate in the ruling. The g1 report contacted ANTT this Thursday (23), but did not receive a response until the last update of this report.
