Unpublished research shows that 40% of Brazilians do not trust or start to trust less those who advertise bets AFP VIA GETTY IMAGES/BBC The City of Campinas (SP) published, this Friday (31), a decree that prohibits the advertising of fixed-odd betting platforms, known as “bets”, in public spaces and in private places that can be seen from the streets. According to the municipal administration, the measure seeks to protect the population, especially children and adolescents, from the social impacts related to gambling. "We are not prohibiting the activity of betting companies, but defining how advertising can occupy public spaces in the municipality", explained Mayor Dário Saadi (Republicans), in a statement.

What changes? The ban applies to advertisements for brands, applications and betting sites. The new rule includes advertisements in the following locations: Billboards and billboards: installed in public or private areas and visible from the streets; Street furniture: such as bus shelters; Transport: municipal buses and authorized taxis; Events: sporting, cultural and leisure activities held in public spaces and that receive sponsorship. Only institutional communications and those required by federal legislation continue to be permitted. The city hall states that the decision was motivated by concern about family debt, mental health problems and the encouragement of compulsive behaviors. According to the municipal administration, cities such as Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte have already adopted similar measures.
