According to the SSP, Sofia was bathing in a stretch of the Tocantins River, at Praia da Tartaruga, in Peixe, when the current swept her away. Three military divers were mobilized to search for the child in the region. According to information provided by the Fire Department to TV Anhanguera, the body was approximately 90 kilometers from the place where the drowning occurred. People spotted the victim and called rescue teams. After location, the body was collected by the Gurupi Forensic Medicine Center, where it underwent legal procedures before being released to the family.
