The suspect in the crime is military police officer Waldeney Lopes da Silva, aged 49, who was arrested in the act hours later. According to witnesses, the victim was shot after trying to intervene in an argument between the police officer and his wife. According to William's wife, the businessman and a friend were drinking in the bar, which was already closed, when they heard a woman on the street screaming for help and saying that the police officer, who was not on duty, was trying to attack her. According to the victim's wife, William left the establishment and asked Waldeney why he was trying to attack the woman. Minutes later, according to William's wife, the police officer returned to the scene, opened the establishment's gate and fired at least 12 shots. Witnesses reported that, after the crime, the suspect still tried to intimidate people who were in the area and fired new shots. One of the shots hit a motorcycle parked at the scene. William was rescued and taken alive to a health unit, but he did not survive his injuries. He was taken to the Specialized Homicide and Kidnapping Police Station (DEHS), of the Amazonas Civil Police (PC-AM), where he will respond to the appropriate procedures.
