According to the report, the 46 cities in the region had around 10,200 hectares consumed by fire last year. The number is 23.85% lower than that recorded in 2024, when just over 13.3 thousand hectares were burned. ? The largest recorded in one year, according to the report, was in 1999, when just over 16,700 hectares were consumed. Among the cities in the region, Bragança Paulista had the largest area consumed by fire last year. According to the report, 976 hectares were burned in the city. The number is 168.9% higher than that recorded in 2024 in the city. At the time, 363 hectares were burned. Furthermore, in the city, the number recorded in 2025 is the highest since the beginning of the historical series, in 1985, representing almost double the previous record, of 571 hectares, in 1999. In the ranking of cities in the region with the most burned areas in 2025, in addition to Bragança, appear the cities of Pindamonhangaba, with 930 hectares, Areias, with 833 hectares, in addition to Taubaté, with 722 hectares, and Silveiras, with 583. In the largest city in the region, São José dos Campos, the total area consumed by fire last year was 494 hectares, a number that represents 13.8% more than in 2024, when 434 hectares were burned. In the historical series, the area consumed in São José dos Campos in 2025 is the largest since 2003. At the time, that year, the city had 927 hectares burned, according to the MapBiomas report.
