The death was confirmed by the athlete's family and representatives. So far, the cause has not been disclosed.
According to South African police, Adams' body was found in a residence in the Schotschekloof neighborhood, in the central region of Cape Town. Authorities opened an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the case.
During the World Cup, Jayden Adams participated in the three group stage games for the South African national team. In the round of 16, against Canada, he remained on the bench in the 1-0 defeat that eliminated the team from the tournament.
The World Cup was also marked by a personal loss for the player. While in the United States competing in the competition, Adams received news of the death of his grandmother, Marianna Adams.
For Mamelodi Sundowns, the midfielder enjoyed one of the best phases of his career. Signed in January 2025 after standing out for Stellenbosch, he helped the club win the African Champions League in the 2025/2026 season.
Wearing the South African national team's shirt, Adams played 13 matches and scored two goals.
The player also faced Fluminense in the 2025 Club World Cup. On that occasion, Mamelodi Sundowns drew 0-0 with the Brazilian team.
In an official statement, the South African football players' union lamented the athlete's death and highlighted the legacy he left behind.
"Death cruelly stole one of our own. It took an extraordinary footballer from our nation, but it will never erase the legacy that Jayden Adams leaves behind. We will always remember his humility, his talent and the pride with which he represented South Africa. Rest in peace, Jayden. You will never be forgotten", stated the entity.
