SÃO PAULO, SP (UOL/FOLHAPRESS) - São Paulo has advanced in negotiations to send games to the Mercado Livre Arena Pacaembu in 2027, under the condition that the stadium switches from synthetic grass to natural ground.

UOL found that the negotiations are not yet closed, but have been progressing in recent days. The club's priority is to find an alternative to the unavailability of Morumbis, which will continue to host shows in the coming seasons in the capital.

The conversations are already in the agenda discussion phase.

Until then, Tricolor has found 'second homes' outside the city of São Paulo - it was like that this Wednesday, in the defeat to Athletico-PR, in Bragança Paulista. The Princess's Golden Earring was also used on more than one occasion in the recent cut.

São Paulo's main requirement to advance the agreement is the replacement of synthetic grass with natural grass. The club maintains its position against the artificial surface and understands that the change is essential to take matches to the stadium.

CONTRACT PROVIDES FOR A MINIMUM OF FOUR SHOWS PER YEAR

Signed in 2023, still under Julio Casares management, the agreement lasts for five years and guarantees priority to the producer for holding 36 shows at Morumbis between January 2026 and December 2031.

The agreement establishes a minimum of four events per season, a mark that the club would already reach with just Harry Styles' four appearances, scheduled for the period of the 2026 World Cup, when the football calendar will be at a standstill.

Despite this, São Paulo's marketing department has already agreed to hold 12 shows for 2026. The club still maintains veto power over any event before the turn of each season and sees shows as an important source of revenue.

Net revenue is around R$3 million per show, which could yield around R$36 million to the tricolor coffers if the forecast for next year is confirmed.
