Corinthians gives in and sends contract to Memphis after meeting with twists and turns

The club's board of directors drafted the new bond, formalizing the bases that were already verbally aligned between the parties, and forwarded the document to the team that takes care of the striker's career.

UOL found that Memphis postponed his return to Brazil, scheduled for this Thursday, because he wanted to receive the formalization of the new contract before embarking. Corinthians' initial intention was to present the document only after carrying out medical examinations and physical tests on the player.

Faced with the athlete's request, Corinthians gave in and sent the draft contract for analysis by the Dutchman's legal team. The document will be evaluated this Thursday by the attacker's representatives.

The basis of the new contract had already been forwarded between the parties last weekend. Memphis accepted a significant reduction in the values ??provided for in the current contract, which ends on July 31st.

The attacker agreed to receive around R$2 million per month if he signs the new contract. Corinthians will also no longer pay extra expenses provided for in the current agreement, such as cooks, drivers and security.

The player also agreed to set the debt the club owes him at R$42 million. The value disregards fines, interest and monetary corrections that would increase the amount owed.

According to the agreement between the parties, Corinthians will have a grace period to pay off the debt. Payment will only begin in January of next year.

Meeting with twists

The decision to send the formal renewal proposal was made after a virtual meeting between the parties. The meeting was attended by Memphis, its representatives, lawyers and members of Corinthians' board of directors and legal department.

According to sources consulted by the report, the beginning of the conversation was positive, but the tone changed throughout the meeting. The main point of disagreement was Corinthians' demand to obtain guarantees about the player's physical conditions before signing the new contract.

Memphis did not object to the medical exams and physical tests. The attacker, however, maintained his position that he would only carry out the procedures after analyzing the formalization of the contract.

Corinthians' internal assessment was pessimistic during the negotiations. After the meeting, however, the board decided to forward the formal renewal proposal to Memphis Depay.
