Documentary film shows the lives of 4 young people who face the Enem "Terceirão – One year, four lives", a TV Globo documentary, won this Friday (24) the Gabo Award 2026 in the Image category. The award, promoted by the Gabo Foundation, is considered the most important in journalism in Spanish and Portuguese. Click here and watch "Terceirão" on Globoplay Directed by Eliane Scardovelli and Caio Cavechini, the film records, over the course of a school year, the routine of four teenagers from different regions and social contexts in Brazil in a period of decisions about the future, pressure for university entrance exams, mental health challenges, inequality and family conflicts. The protagonists are: Luiza, from the outskirts of São Paulo, a scholarship holder at an elite school, who dreams of studying Law and faces the discovery of a brain tumor on the eve of the entrance exam; Manoela, from Belo Horizonte, approved in Medicine, which reflects on the limits of competitiveness; Micael, from the interior of Ceará, who combines studies and work to help his family while deciding whether to pursue higher education; Bianca, from Capão Redondo (SP), who wants to be a psychologist and is experiencing a delicate rapprochement with her mother. When announcing the winners, the Gabo Foundation highlighted that the film follows "for a year four Brazilian students in their final year of high school in their transition to adulthood". When the documentary was released, in October 2025, Scardovelli said that he sought to focus on observing the daily lives of young people. "The spontaneous conversations reveal more to us about these teenagers than the interviews themselves. Through observation and listening, we were able to witness transformations, moments of joy and sadness. It was a great privilege to have had the trust of these four young people. We immersed ourselves in their lives for a year." Cavechini highlighted that the team imagined only recording the tension of Enem, but found much broader stories. "Terceirão is a year of change, perhaps one of the most difficult we go through in our lives. Right away we knew that we would experience the tension of Enem, common to five million Brazilians. But we didn't imagine that we would experience so many other things." Brazil wins three of the five awards Brazil was the most awarded country in this edition of the Gabo Awards, with three of the five categories. The Text and Audio awards went to productions from El Salvador and Spain, respectively. In total, the 14th edition of the Gabo Prize received 1,915 works, evaluated by an international jury made up of 66 journalists, writers, photographers and producers.
