Caiado accuses Flávio Bolsonaro of conspiring against Brazil's economy

During the interview, Caiado classified Flávio's participation in negotiations involving the measure announced by Donald Trump's government as “unacceptable”. In May, the senator was at the White House for a meeting with the North American president and, days later, the United States announced the extra charge on Brazilian products.

When asked whether he considered Flávio's actions a “betrayal of the country”, Caiado avoided using the term, but stated that there was an action harmful to the country's interests.

"This exists in all democratic countries, this is not a new rule. This is you conspiring against the country's economy. There is anti-dumping legislation and it is not enforced", he declared.

The topic arose after the mediator recalled that the common Penal Code does not provide for a specific crime of treason. In Brazil, this provision exists in the Military Penal Code for war situations, while the Penal Code deals with crimes against national sovereignty, including actions that could provoke international conflicts or harm the country's diplomatic relations.

Caiado also criticized the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the trade crisis between Brazil and the United States. According to him, Itamaraty stopped acting as a State institution and started adopting an ideological stance.

"It has become ideological policy instead of State policy. This is the truth", he stated.

Before the hearing, the PSD pre-candidate had also refuted a proposal defended by Flávio Bolsonaro for the entry into force of North American tariffs to be postponed until after the Brazilian elections.

For Caiado, the idea conveys a false sense of tranquility to the population.

"I don't know Flávio Bolsonaro's line of reasoning. I'm 100% against it, and our concern is Brazil as a whole, not an electoral period. We can't create a false positive for the population, that is: we won't be taxed until the election? Then will we accept it? No!", he declared.

Also this Tuesday, Flávio Bolsonaro participated in a public hearing in the United States regarding the commercial investigation opened based on Section 301 of North American legislation.

On the occasion, the senator defended the revocation of tariffs imposed on Brazil. The investigation conducted by the United States government seeks to assess whether policies adopted by the Brazilian government cause harm to the country's commercial interests.
