Parade magazine spoke to some nutritionists, such as Paloma Vega, Eleana Kaidanian and Julia Zumpano, to better understand this food and the effects it can have on the intestine when consumed regularly.
Gut: the effect of Greek yogurt
"Greek yogurt is a type of yogurt with a thicker and creamier consistency, which goes through a filtering process to remove much of the whey during production", explains Paloma Vega.
"Due to this filtering process, Greek yogurt generally has a higher protein content, a lower carbohydrate content, and contains slightly less calcium than regular yogurt, although both can be nutritious options depending on individual nutritional needs," he continues.
In relation to probiotics, which are beneficial for the intestine, this type of yogurt ends up being a great choice, as it increases the presence of live bacteria and promotes good intestinal health.
"If you consume yogurt daily, you are exposing your gut to beneficial bacteria. The good bacteria compete with the harmful bacteria for space and nutrients to thrive. If you have more good microbes, they multiply and act as a natural defense," says Eleana Kaidanian.
