The case took place in the Conjunto Paulo César neighborhood and was recorded by security cameras. The images show the car traveling slowly when one of the occupants, sitting in the back seat, opens the door and throws the white cat into the street. Scared, the animal runs after the car and ends up being hit.
The repercussion of the images led the Civil Police to quickly identify the vehicle and its occupants. The names of the suspects were not released.
According to delegate Alcino Júnior, the police located the driver and passenger and took them to the police station, where the case began to be analyzed by the authority on duty.
"As soon as they became aware, the Civil Police identified the vehicle, the owners, who was driving and the passenger. They were taken to the police station and the arrest report will be evaluated by the police officer on duty", he stated.
The case can be framed under the Samsão Law, which increased the punishment for mistreatment of dogs and cats. The legislation provides for a prison sentence of two to five years, in addition to a fine and a ban on keeping animals.
The law also allows arrest in the act, without the possibility of bail granted by the police authority.
