Uczai stated this Tuesday that, if Alcolumbre does not send the proposal to the CCJ (Constitution and Justice Commission) by next week, "we will elect him as an enemy too, an enemy of the workers".
After the PT member's statement, Alcolumbre released a statement noting that "this type of threat and attempted intimidation will no longer be tolerated." The senator says that the agenda is the prerogative of the President of the House and that "he is not subject to ultimatums or political-electoral pressures".
"Whoever really intends to contribute to the advancement of the PEC respects the due legislative process. Institutional threats and constraints do not speed up the process; they only challenge the independence of the Powers", said Alcolumbre.
The president of the Senate privately complains about what he sees as attacks allegedly promoted by the Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) government against him on social media to pressure him into putting the PEC to a vote.
As Folha de S. Paulo showed, Alcolumbre warned at least two allies that he should not vote on the measure before the elections. The proposal reached the Senate at the end of May, but was not even sent to the CCJ. The president also did not define the text's rapporteur.
The head of the Senate is waiting, according to people close to him, for a conversation with Lula. The two have not spoken in person since the Senate rejected the nomination of the Union's attorney general, Jorge Messias, for a vacancy on the STF (Supreme Federal Court), in April.
