Grape 'Safrinha' gains strength with the cold and becomes a profitable business in the interior of SP TV TEM/Reproduction The cold dawn, with thermometers hovering around 10°C, became a reason for joy for producers in the interior of São Paulo. Although the traditional grape harvest takes place during the summer, the so-called winter "safrinha" has gained strength and consolidated itself as a highly profitable business in the region, reaching a higher productivity than the main harvest in some areas. On producer Anderson Tomazeto's property, there are two and a half hectares cultivated with different types of grapes. At this time of year, the Niágara, Núbia, Vitória and Melodia varieties, the so-called table grapes, are the ones that come out the most. The cold is largely responsible for boosting the quality of the fruits, ensuring brighter colors, a striking perfume and a sweeter flavor, although production requires management adapted to low temperatures. In Itupeva (SP), farmer João Leonardo Foga uses the wisdom of someone who is in the third generation of his family in the countryside to manage a structure of 70 thousand grape trees. On his property, harvesting work began in the first week of July. The producer highlights that the winter harvest has become fundamental for the financial sustainability of work in the field. To protect the investment and guarantee the standard of the fruit, João's entire plantation is covered by protective nets. With a guaranteed market, local production is sold to large centers such as Campinas, São Paulo and Belo Horizonte. The scenario confirms a period to celebrate rural work, promising excellent economic returns for producers.
