The federal public debt grew 2.6% in June and reached R$9.27 trillion, the National Treasury Secretariat reported this Wednesday (29). In May, debt was R$9.03 trillion. The federal public debt is that contracted by the National Treasury to finance the federal government's budget deficit, that is, to pay government expenses above revenue from taxes and contributions. According to the Treasury, the debt rose in June due to the issuance of R$149.6 billion in public bonds in the domestic market. Redemptions of these securities totaled a lower value last month: R$7.33 billion. According to the government, the average cost of public debt issues in public offerings decreased, from 14.19% in May to 14.20% per year in June. The average term of public debt fell, from 4.07 years in May to 4.01 years in June. The so-called "liquidity reserve" (cash available exclusively for debt payment) went from R$1.21 trillion, in May, to R$1.35 trillion in June - the equivalent of 8.33 months of maturities. The National Treasury's forecast is that the debt will end the year 2026 between R$9.7 trillion and R$10.3 trillion. The data appears in the Annual Financing Plan (PAF), released in January this year.
