Warnings for 200 mm of rain and strong wind are issued by Inmet for two states

The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) published an orange alert (danger) for almost all of Rio Grande do Sul and the extreme south of Santa Catarina. The warning is valid from Thursday (16) and extends until 11:59 pm on Friday (17).

According to the agency, rain of 100 mm per day should affect these regions, totaling around 200 mm. In addition, intense winds that can reach 100 km/h and hail are also expected.

As Canal Rural's meteorologist, Arthur Müller, had already said, rainfall tends to cause flooding in Rio Grande do Sul's territory due to the already waterlogged soil.

The expert explains that the warning arises from the action of a meteorological trough and a wave train, phenomena that should favor the formation of three extratropical cyclones over the Region starting on Thursday (16).

According to Inmet, there is a risk of electricity cuts, damage to plantations and falling trees in 480 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul.

The danger warning covers the following regions of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, as shown on the map: southwest, northwest, central west, Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre, southeast, northeast, center and south of Santa Catarina.
