Tornado, heat of 40°C and more than 200 mm of rain: Brazil enters a week of extremes; check it out

The week will be marked by intense heat and little rain in the soybean-producing regions of the north of the country. The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ZCIT) loses strength over the region, reducing the occurrence of more significant precipitation.

The largest volumes of rain should be concentrated in the north of Amapá and Roraima, with accumulations of approximately 50 millimeters over the next five days. Between the end of July and the beginning of August, the tendency is for there to be no heavy rain in most parts of the country.

This scenario should also prevail in the first week of August. Some rain showers may advance over Rondônia, but in a poorly distributed manner and with low volumes, which should not exceed between 10 and 15 millimeters during the period.

On the other hand, temperatures continue to rise, mainly in Rondônia, southern Pará and Tocantins. Over the next fortnight, maximum temperatures could reach 40°C in several areas. With hotter and drier weather, the risk of fire outbreaks also increases, which tend to spread across different areas of the North region.

What's next?

When the scenario is expanded to the whole of Brazil, the forecast indicates continuation of storms, mainly between Friday and Saturday, in the Southeast, northern Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul. There is the possibility of the formation of tornadoes, microexplosions, hail and wind gusts exceeding 100 km/h;

Another region that remains on alert is Rio Grande do Sul. From Sunday (26), a new cold front advances associated with a trough area. In addition to the risk of strong winds and hail, the rain is gaining intensity again in the state and is expected to persist for around ten days, continuing until the turn of the month.

Accumulations can exceed between 150 and 200 millimeters in areas where the soil is already saturated, once again increasing the risk of river overflows and new disturbances.

The rain should not advance with the same intensity over Paraná and Santa Catarina. In Mato Grosso do Sul, the forecast indicates a pulse of rain with accumulations of at least 50 millimeters over the next five days.

In general, in addition to the North and Northeast regions, the Central-West will also face high temperatures over the next ten days. In Cuiabá (MT), thermometers may exceed 40°C, reinforcing the scenario of extreme heat predicted for the period.
