New cold front brings heavy rain to the South and keeps alert for frost; see the weather forecast

The week begins with the return of instability in southern Brazil, the risk of frost in producing areas and the forecast of new storms next weekend. At the same time, a large part of the Central-West and Southeast regions remains under the influence of a dry air mass, favoring the advancement of the harvest of crops such as corn, cotton, coffee and sugar cane.

According to meteorologist Arthur Müller, from Canal Rural, the combination between cold fronts, polar air masses and high pressure areas should maintain the contrast between rain and dry weather in the country, requiring attention both to work in the field and to the risk of extreme events in some regions.

South Region

Instabilities return to the South Region due to the formation of a new cyclogenesis and frontogenesis. From early on, the advance of a new cold front increases cloudiness, mainly in Rio Grande do Sul, favoring moderate to heavy rains in the northern half of Rio Grande do Sul and also in the west of Santa Catarina and Paraná.

Off the coast of Uruguay, a new extratropical cyclone is expected to form. Throughout the day, with the advance of the cold front across the continent, instability continues over the north, north coast of Rio Grande do Sul, Costa Doce and the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre, in addition to the west and south of Santa Catarina and the south and southwest of Paraná, with rain of moderate to heavy intensity. In other areas, the weather remains stable while the cyclone advances offshore.

The day continues with pleasant temperatures in the region. In the northwest and north of Paraná, thermometers rise more due to the pre-frontal condition. Behind the cold front, a new mass of polar air causes a drop in temperatures in Rio Grande do Sul and areas of Santa Catarina, where minimum temperatures can occur at night.

Between Tuesday and Thursday, there is a risk of frost in low-lying areas of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and southern Paraná, with minimum temperatures below 4°C in producing regions. Attention is also focused on the formation of a new extratropical cyclone between Friday and Saturday, near Uruguay, which could cause storms and volumes exceeding 100 millimeters in the three states, damaging field work.

Southeast Region

The cold front will already be further away in the ocean, but maritime circulation favors weak and isolated rains on the coast of Espírito Santo, northeast and east of Minas Gerais, maintaining greater cloudiness also in these areas, in Rio de Janeiro and in the south of Minas Gerais.

In other areas, there is predominance of sun and few clouds. In the north, west and Triângulo Mineiro, relative humidity remains low during the afternoon and there is no forecast of rain.

Temperatures remain milder in the center-south of São Paulo, south of Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro. The interior will have a hot and dry week, favoring the second harvest of corn, the harvesting and grinding of sugar cane and the coffee harvest. Rain is restricted to the coastal strip, with accumulations of between 10 and 20 millimeters, with no risk of storms.

Midwest Region

The region continues to be under the influence of a dry air mass, while wind circulation inhibits the formation of rain clouds. The weather remains firm in Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás and the Federal District, with a predominance of sun between few clouds.

In the southwest and extreme south of Mato Grosso do Sul, there is a possibility of rain showers between the late afternoon and evening due to the action of the cold front in the south of the country. Relative air humidity remains low in Goiás, the Federal District and the eastern half of Mato Grosso.

The week will be hot and dry, favoring the second harvest of cotton and corn harvesting. The maximum temperature can reach 38°C in the triple state border areas.

Northeast Region

The circulation of winds in the ocean maintains the action of Eastern Wave Disturbances over the Northeast coastal strip. As a result, the rain continues to be concentrated between the coast of Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba and Ceará, with moderate, locally strong showers possible, with the risk of flooding and storms.

There is also a forecast of light to moderate rain on the coast of Pernambuco and along the coast of Bahia, mainly in the south of the state, where moderate to heavy showers may occur.

In the interior of the region, firm weather prevails, with sun, heat and low relative humidity. The biggest accumulations of the week are restricted to the coast, between 20 and 30 millimeters.

The west of Bahia, south-central Maranhão and south-central Piauí require attention due to the increased risk of fire outbreaks. In these areas, relative humidity must be below 30%, while temperatures can reach between 38°C and 39°C.

North Region

The action of Amazonian convection, favored by the heat and high humidity, keeps the instabilities concentrated mainly over Roraima, where heavy showers, isolated storms and the risk of localized flooding are expected.

In Amazonas and Amapá, typical showers of the region may also occur. In Tocantins, eastern Pará and Rondônia, the dry air mass keeps the weather firm, with little cloudiness and low levels of humidity during the afternoon.

In Roraima, accumulations can exceed 100 millimeters due to the action of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ZCIT), hampering work in the field. In Acre, temporary rainfall of between 10 and 15 millimeters helps to replenish soil moisture.

Attention also turns to the south of Pará, Rondônia and Tocantins, where the risk of fire outbreaks increases due to the combination of the absence of significant rain, temperatures above 38°C and relative humidity below 30%.
