Cold front brings new cold wave to Brazil this weekend

The first week of July ends with the presence of a strong mass of polar air over central-southern Brazil. The system keeps temperatures low throughout the weekend, especially in the South Region, where frost is expected and even the possibility of winter precipitation on Friday (3).

The cold front also causes rain on the Southeast coast before losing strength on Sunday (5). In the Central-West and in the interior of the Northeast, the highlight continues to be the dry weather and low air humidity. In the North Region, the blows remain concentrated in the northern part of the Amazon.

South

Friday (3)

The polar air mass advances over the region and drops temperatures. There is still light rain on the coast of Paraná, Santa Catarina and the northeast of Rio Grande do Sul, but the main highlight is the intense cold.

Dawn will have negative temperatures in areas of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, with widespread frost in much of Rio Grande do Sul. There is also the possibility of winter precipitation in the mountains of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina during the early hours of the morning. The sea remains rough and wind gusts can vary between 50 and 70 km/h on the coast of Rio Grande do Sul and southern Santa Catarina.

Saturday (4)

Firm weather prevails in practically the entire region under the influence of the polar air mass. Only the coast of Paraná can record light and isolated rain. The dawn remains very cold, with frost in areas of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and the extreme south of Paraná. During the afternoon, temperatures gradually rise, but the feeling remains mild.

Sunday (5)

The weather remains firm across most of the region. Cloudiness increases in Rio Grande do Sul, with the possibility of light rain in Campanha and the south of the state. There is also a chance of isolated rain in the interior of Santa Catarina. The dawn remains cold, with occasional frosts between the mountains of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina. The sea remains rough, but loses intensity throughout the day.

Southeast

The cold front causes an increase in cloudiness and rain between the south and the coast of São Paulo, Baixada Santista, Vale do Ribeira, the north coast of São Paulo, the south coast of Rio de Janeiro and Grande Rio. It also rains lightly on the north coast of Espírito Santo and the northeast of Minas Gerais. The polar air mass reduces temperatures in the center-south of São Paulo, the south of Rio de Janeiro and the extreme south of Minas Gerais.

The rain continues between Baixada Santista, the north coast of São Paulo, the coast of Rio de Janeiro and Grande Rio, with weak to moderate intensity. There is also light rain on the south coast of São Paulo, the coast of Espírito Santo and the northeast of Minas Gerais. Temperatures remain low in the center-south of São Paulo, south of Rio de Janeiro and south of Minas Gerais.

The cold front loses strength and firm weather prevails again in most of the region. There is still rain in the early hours of the day between the north coast of São Paulo, the coast of Rio de Janeiro and the south of Espírito Santo, but the instability decreases over the period. Temperatures remain mild in the center-south of the region.

Midwest Region

The approach of the cold air mass causes a drop in temperatures in the south and west of Mato Grosso do Sul and in the southwest of Mato Grosso. In other areas, firm weather prevails, with no rain forecast. Low humidity continues to be highlighted in Goiás, the Federal District and east of Mato Grosso.

The weather remains stable across the region. The predominance of the sun keeps the relative humidity at alert levels in Goiás, the Federal District and central-eastern Mato Grosso, while the south of Mato Grosso do Sul continues to experience milder temperatures.

The dry air mass continues to predominate. The weather remains sunny, with no rain forecast, and low humidity keeps the risk of fires high. Temperatures rise again in the afternoon.

Northeast

Maritime circulation favors rain throughout the eastern part of the region, with greater intensity between Rio Grande do Norte and southern Bahia. There is a risk of storms on the coast of Rio Grande do Norte. It also rains between the coast of Ceará and Maranhão. Inland, the weather remains dry and low humidity increases the risk of fires.

Eastern Wave Disturbances reinforce rain between Pernambuco, Paraíba, Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará, with the possibility of storms, flooding and accumulated highs, especially in Natal and Fortaleza. The interior remains dry and hot.

Instability continues to be concentrated between Rio Grande do Norte, Ceará and the coast of Paraíba, with a risk of heavy rain and flooding. It also rains in the north of Maranhão and Piauí, while the interior continues with dry weather.

North

The heat and high humidity keep rain showers over much of the region. The largest volumes are expected in Roraima, Amapá, north and west of Amazonas and north of Pará. Tocantins and central-south of Pará continue with dry weather and low humidity.

Instabilities remain concentrated between the west and north of Amazonas, Roraima, Amapá and north of Pará, with the possibility of isolated storms. Rondônia, Acre, Tocantins and the central-south Amazon region remain in steady weather.
