Cuiabá receives, for the first time, a production of the award-winning musical Wicked – The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz. The show will be presented on the 17th, 18th and 19th of July, at 7:30 pm, at the UFMT Theater, in a production by the OnBroadway Cuiabá Group, a reference in musical theater training in Mato Grosso. Inspired by the work of Gregory Maguire, the musical revisits the universe of Oz before Dorothy's arrival and presents the trajectory of Elphaba and Glinda, two completely different young women who build a friendship marked by choices, conflicts and transformations. The story proposes a reflection on prejudice, power, friendship and the different points of view that construct the idea of ??heroes and villains.
The production ends the training cycle of the OnBroadway Show 2026 course and represents one of the largest productions ever carried out by the group, bringing together more than 50 professionals including artists, musicians, technicians and production staff.
There will be 26 actors on stage, accompanied by seven pit singers, as well as a specialized team responsible for bringing the fantastic universe of Oz to life.
According to the show's general director, Rafael Cerigato, the production is the result of months of artistic preparation.
"Wicked represents much more than the production of a great musical. It is a demonstration that Mato Grosso has artists prepared to produce high-level productions, training talent and strengthening the local cultural scene. Every detail of this production is the result of a lot of study, dedication and collective work."
The show has general direction by Rafael Cerigato, artistic direction by Robson Oliveira, scenic direction by Fabiola Karen, scenic and artistic direction by Carol Torres, movement direction by Gabriel Eckert and musical direction by Lígia Alves. The production also involves more than twenty professionals responsible for costumes, scenography, sculptures, props, sewing, lighting, sound, miking, stage management and technical production, reinforcing the collaborative dimension and the high level of production.
Founded in 2011, Grupo OnBroadway Cuiabá became a pioneer in musical theater in Mato Grosso. Throughout his career, he presented productions such as Aladdin, Mamma Mia!, The Addams Family and The Lion King, consolidating work aimed at artistic training and cultural production in the state.
It is carried out by the OnBroadway Group and Espaço Roda – Arte e Expressão, with support from Caixa Cânica, Instituto Roda, Anescare, Contaud, Teatro de Encantaria, Teatro da UFMT, Fundação Uniselva and PROCEV/UFMT.
