Around 5 thousand people participated in the Cheese Festival, held this weekend, at the Pantanal Events Center, in Cuiabá. Promoted by the Support Service for Micro and Small Businesses of Mato Grosso (Sebrae) and by the State government and Empaer, the event brought together rural producers, family agribusinesses, dairies, experts and consumers.

The highlight of the program was the 3rd Mato Grosso Cheese Competition, which awarded 118 producers from the state in 22 categories of artisanal cheeses and 11 of industrial cheeses and recognized the quality, innovation and development of small businesses in the milk production chain. The competition received entries for 374 products from different regions of the state, with 73 expert judges responsible for evaluating the cheeses.

For the superintendent director of Sebrae Mato Grosso, Lélia Brun, the festival consolidates a strategy for developing the dairy chain based on adding value and expanding market opportunities for small businesses. "More than recognizing quality products, the Cheese Festival shows the strength of producers, artisanal agribusinesses and dairy industries in the state. Sebrae will continue to support this work with management, qualification, regularization, access to markets and new business opportunities."

The Secretary of State for Family Agriculture, Andreia Fujioka, highlighted that the festival reflects the advancement of agroindustrialization and sanitary regularization of small producers in Mato Grosso. According to her, the growth of the sector can already be seen by the increase in the number of formalized enterprises capable of accessing new markets. "We are seeing a lot more agro-industries happening and reaching the shelves through the front door, in the formal market. It was also exciting to see the recognition of quilombola producers, who conquered this space with a lot of dedication, perseverance and the support of partner institutions. The whole state benefits from this", commented the secretary of Seaf-MT.

In addition to the state competition, the Cheese Festival featured a fair with more than 40 exhibitors, a gastronomic square and a wide agenda of activities that allowed the public to immerse themselves in the diversity of Mato Grosso production. At the Mobile Queijaria, more than 10 practical workshops were held, with demonstrations of the production of cheese and other dairy products. The Cozinha Show hosted eight workshops with preparing recipes, pairing cheeses with drinks and using different ingredients. The event also promoted 12 technical lectures aimed at the production sector.
