Chadwick Boseman's family sues actor's widow

ISABELA FAGGIANISÃO PAULO, SP (FOLHAPRESS) - Six years after the death of Chadwick Boseman, star of "Black Panther", the actor's family is still facing a legal battle to try to remove Taylor Simone Ledward Boseman, the star's widow, from the administration of the inheritance he left.

According to documents presented in a Los Angeles court, in the United States, Kevin and Derrick Boseman accuse Taylor of failing to comply with a court decision and keeping the family without information related to the distribution of assets.

The actor did not leave a will, so it was up to the courts to define the administration and division of his assets. In 2022, a court ruled that Leroy and Carolyn Boseman, Chadwick's parents, were entitled to 50% of the inheritance. The other half was to remain under the control of the widow.

Four years after the decision, however, the star's brothers claim that the sharing was not completed and remains entirely in the hands of Taylor, who did not comply with court orders.

The actor's assets comprise income from copyrights, residual payments from films starring the actor, amounts linked to the use of his image, investments, insurance, bank accounts and personal assets. According to the petition, the money saved in the bank alone exceeds US$3 million (approximately 15.2 million reais).

Chadwick's brothers are asking the court to declare the widow in contempt for alleged non-compliance with the law, order the presentation of an accounting within 30 days and replace her as administrator of the estate.

In addition to starring in one of Marvel's biggest hits, the star, who died in August 2020 due to colon cancer, also starred in films such as "Blood Detachment" and "The Supreme Voice of the Blues", released a few months after his death.
