Renato began his career in the artistic world, working as an actor and voice actor. In his youth, he was part of the historic Teatro Oficina, in São Paulo, one of the most important theater groups in the country, where he participated in productions of drama classics, such as "The Storm", by William Shakespeare, and "Antigone".
He also had stints on television as an actor. Among the works are Globo productions. Shortly after the station opened, Renato participated in "Rosinha do Sobrado", considered the first soap opera of the 7, shown in 1965, in addition to "A Moreninha", also from that year.
The journalist was also part of the cast of "Sangue do Meu Sangue", in 1969, on the now extinct TV Excelsior. As the roles were small, there are no known records of the scenes in which he participated.
His experience on stage brought him closer to big names in Brazilian television. In an interview with "Programa do Jô", in 2012, Regina Duarte recalled her coexistence with the journalist during the period in which they both worked. "Renato really impressed me with his intelligence, he was very articulate, cultured, informed, cool, a good person."
In life, Renato even remembered his connection with dramaturgy. He even shared a photo alongside Jô Soares during a rehearsal of the play "Romeo and Juliet", in São Paulo. In the publication, made after Jô's death, he wrote: "My great friend Jô directing me in the Mercúcio scene. How empty today."
DEATH OF THE JOURNALIST
Renato died this morning (16) at Clínica São Vicente, in Gávea, south of Rio. "Clínica São Vicente regrets the death of journalist Renato Machado this Thursday morning and expresses its condolences to the family.", said the hospital in a note sent to Splash.
The journalist was one of the best-known names in television journalism at TV Globo, where he worked for more than four decades. He presented Jornal da Globo and RJTV, was a member of the Jornal Nacional panel and served as an international correspondent and special reporter.
