Escobar was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that compromises communication between nerves and muscles, mainly affecting speech and chewing. During examinations, doctors detected the tumor in the thymus, an organ located in the anterior and upper region of the chest, close to the heart, and recommended surgery. According to GE, Escobar is doing well after the surgery.
The situation became public after he felt unwell while participating in the Encontro program, on June 22, when he was following the coverage of the 2026 World Cup in New Jersey, in the United States.
After the episode, the presenter interrupted his participation in covering the tournament and returned to Brazil to begin treatment and carry out new tests.
