Why did Tarcísio wear Trump's hat?
On January 20, 2025, Tarcísio published a video on social media using the accessory to celebrate Trump's inauguration as President of the United States. In the caption, he wrote: "Great day! Make America Great Again."
"One thing has nothing to do with the other. I put my hat on in that inauguration situation", said Tarcísio in an interview with RedeTV!.
When asked if he would use the accessory again, he replied: "No. But I don't think that has anything to do with what came later."
Tarcísio minimizes Eduardo Bolsonaro’s influence on pricing
The governor also reduced the weight attributed to former deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) in the American government's decision.
According to Tarcísio, the son of former president Jair Bolsonaro would not have enough influence to determine the adoption of the tariffs. He classified this interpretation as a “narrative” and recalled that the United States opened an investigation into Brazilian commercial practices about a year ago.
In the governor's opinion, Washington acts in accordance with its own interests.
São Paulo adopts measures to reduce the impact of tariffs
To mitigate the effects of the tariff, Tarcísio stated that the São Paulo government released and defined a calendar for the payment of accumulated credits from the Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS).
According to him, the measure seeks to give financial breathing room to affected companies. The governor also said that the policy could be repeated in a possible second term, if the tariffs are maintained.
Governor demands action from Itamaraty
Tarcísio stated that it is up to Itamaraty to seek a reconciliation between Brazilian and American interests.
The governor also noted that the country had about a year to prepare for the adoption of the new tariffs by the United States.
