Municipal vehicle rotation will remain suspended, city hall said this evening.
How long will the CPTM strike last?
The stoppage on the train lines is for an indefinite period, with a new meeting called for 5pm this Wednesday (5). The demand is for the Tarcísio de Freitas (Republican) government to present a formal commitment that it will maintain all workers even with the concession of the extensions to the private sector.
In a note, the government stated that it had made a commitment not to make layoffs during the company's employee relocation period. He also said he had presented concrete proposals.
"The maintenance of jobs was guaranteed and communicated to the union on the eve of the strike. Contrary to what the entity claims, there are no layoffs in progress, which makes the labor motivation for the strike unfounded", he added.
In turn, the union asks for a formal guarantee of the maintenance of jobs. “The State Government has not yet presented a concrete written guarantee of maintaining the jobs of all CPTM workers, the main demand”, he pointed out.
Why did the government resume CPTM lines?
The government temporarily regained control of the three lines at the end of July. The measure occurred after failures in the electrical system, a fire in a wagon and other problems. The operation was the responsibility of the concessionaire Trivia Trens.
TRT marks conciliation between CPTM and union
A conciliation between the union and CPTM was scheduled for 12pm this Wednesday at TRT-2 (Regional Court of the 2nd Region). The Court had determined 80% of the workforce at peak (4 am to 10 am and 4 pm to 9 pm) and 60% for the rest of the operation this Tuesday.
Non-compliance is subject to a daily fine of R$400,000. The deliberation also included the presentation of measures so that citizens would not be harmed if the strike was extended to Wednesday, with the possibility of a fine of R$1 million to the union and R$2 million to CPTM.
Which sections of the CPTM are working?
According to CPTM, around a third of the average number of trains for the peak was in operation in the afternoon, with a focus on routes with the highest demand. The operation covers the following sections:
line 11-coral: between Palmeiras-Barra Funda and Guaianases stations; line 12-safira: between Brás and Engenheiro Goulart stations; line 13-jade: all stations, with reduced speed; Expresso Aeroporto: operation suspended.
Buses are made available for affected passengers
The Paese system (Support Plan between Companies in Emergency Situations) was activated. It is aimed at serving passengers from the affected sections of the extreme east of the capital of São Paulo and municipalities in the metropolitan region, such as Ferraz de Vasconcelos, Poá and Mogi das Cruzes.
According to Artesp (Transport Regulatory Agency), 128 buses were made available. The operation of the Metro and intercity bus lines was also expanded.
“It is important to highlight that buses do not replace the capacity of a train, which carries around 2,400 passengers per train,” he explained in a note.
Railway workers demand approval of bill
One of the railway workers' agendas is the approval of state bill 730/2025. The proposal allows the absorption of CPTM workers by direct or indirect public administration bodies or entities in the case of concessions, permissions or PPP (Public-Private Partnership).
The topic was addressed by the president of the São Paulo Railway Workers Union, Eluiz Alves de Matos, in a meeting with deputies at the São Paulo Legislative Assembly this Tuesday. In the morning, there was overcrowding and delays in transporting workers.
Vehicle rotation remains suspended in São Paulo
Car rotation in the city of São Paulo is suspended due to the strike. Together, the three lines transported 786,500 passengers on working days, according to June data.
Concession of the lines foresees R$ 14.3 billion in investments
The auction for lines 11, 12 and 13 took place in March 2025. The concession is for 25 years and provides for the construction of stations and line extensions, with R$14.3 billion in investments.
Tarcísio calls the CPTM strike a 'riot' and defends privatization
Governor of SP says that ‘private initiative modernizes the system’. In July, the State ordered CPTM to resume lines granted after failure in the operation of the Trivia Trens concessionaire
