Vacancies
In total, the MEC offers more than 112 thousand vacancies for Fies in 2026, considering the opportunities in the first and second semesters, with 67,301 vacancies in the first, and 44,867 in the second.
In addition to the vacancies in the second semester, the MEC will also offer all vacancies that may not be occupied up to the total limit defined for this year.
Grace Rules
A resolution published in the Official Gazette of the Union this Monday (13) by the Ministry of Finance and the National Monetary Council (CMN) changed some of the grace period rules presented previously.
Under the previous rule, the grace period covered both the principal and the interest on the debt and the capitalization of this interest was prohibited. With CMN Resolution No. 5,328, the grace period became valid only for the principal, and interest that is not paid during this period can be incorporated into the outstanding balance.
The new resolution maintained the maximum financing terms for defaulting Fies beneficiaries — up to 60 months for individuals and up to 96 months for legal entities.
Who can register
Candidates must meet the requirements established in the new notice:
- have participated in the National High School Exam (Enem) from the 2010 edition onwards;
- have obtained an average equal to or greater than 450 points considering the five tests;
- not having received a zero grade in the writing test;
- have gross monthly family income per capita of up to three minimum wages (R$4,863, in 2026).
Candidates who participated in Enem as a "trainer" cannot register for Fies.
The MEC highlights that, in the case of vacancies intended for people with disabilities (PWD), candidates must prove their situation through a medical report, with express reference to the corresponding code from the International Classification of Diseases (ICD).
Fies Social
The Fies selection process includes reserving 50% of places for students with a family income per person of up to half a minimum wage (R$810.50, in 2026) and with active registration in the federal government's Single Registry for Social Programs (CadÚnico).
Those pre-selected for Fies Social vacancies will be able to request full financing, covering all educational costs.
These pre-selected students with a family income of up to half a minimum wage per person, registered for Fies Social vacancies, are exempt from proving their family income directly at the private higher education institution.
Even so, they must attend the Permanent Supervision and Monitoring Committee (CPSA) of the respective private college to validate the other information provided at the time of registration.
Fies schedule for the second half of 2026:
- registrations: from July 14th to 17th;
- result: July 30th;
- completion of registrations: from July 31st to August 4th;
- waiting list: from September 7th to 24th.
