SÃO PAULO, SP (UOL/FOLHAPRESS) - A driver ran over a blind man who was walking with a guide dog and fled without providing assistance in Águas Claras, in the Federal District, on Sunday.

Victor Uchoa was walking along Rua das Paineiras at around 7:30 pm when the accident occurred. The Civil Police reported that, in his statement, he said he was taking his dog for a walk in front of the condominium where he lives.

When crossing the street and already climbing onto the sidewalk, Uchoa says he felt like he was hit by a vehicle. "I had finished the route, I had already climbed onto the sidewalk, Lorde [dog] had already climbed up, then I felt the shock of the car on my right leg, I ended up being thrown forward. I had to put my forearm down to avoid a bigger shock", he recalled in an interview with TV Globo.

Driver then left the scene. The victim reports that a neighbor, who was talking on the phone in front of the residence, witnessed the scene and went to help him. "He said he was unsure whether to help me or try to record the car's data, but he preferred to help me."

Uchoa fractured his ankle and injured his forearm. He still has his leg bandaged and is expected to recover within 30 days, being evaluated by doctors once a week to monitor his progress.

There is no information that the suspect has been identified or located. The case was registered at the 21st DP, which investigates the dynamics of the accident.
