"[They're] giving you two months to set up a 5x2 because it's before October 4th. Pressure in every way to pass. It doesn't matter if it's going to break [the productive sector], that's secondary, he wants to win the election," he said.
On other occasions, the pre-candidate declared that the most modern model would be to allow each worker and employer to negotiate the number of hours worked according to productivity and efficiency.
Caiado also criticized the current government's public security policy, which he accused of “having the DNA of corruption”. “The PT colludes with drug trafficking,” he added.
The former governor of Goiás spoke about another opponent, senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), who participated in a hearing in the United States on the tariffs proposed by the American government on Brazil.
“A candidate, with respect to Flávio, who puts himself in a session in the USA, this is unacceptable; unacceptable in the first place, where they draw circumstances of taxation for Brazil”.
The statements were made during an event organized by the CNC (National Confederation of Commerce in Goods, Services and Tourism) in Brasília.
At the time, Caiado received a document with the sector's demands. Pre-candidates Flávio Bolsonaro (PL), Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and Romeu Zema (Novo) were also invited to the meeting. Flávio and Lula did not attend, citing other agendas.
In the material delivered to the presidential candidates, the CNC defends “tax and competition equality” between national companies and foreign platforms, with the argument that any exemptions for international groups need to be accompanied by equivalent mechanisms for Brazilian companies.
“Brazil needs to move forward with decision, an agenda that includes modernization of the state, regulatory simplification and access to credit”, said Luiz Carlos Bohn, vice-president of the Confederation.
The document also calls for toughening the fight against piracy, smuggling and embezzlement. The entity wants tougher penalties, integrated digital traceability between Revenue, police and marketplaces and joint liability of digital platforms for advertisements of counterfeit products.
With such measures, the CNC wants to increase the cost of illegality and reduce the asymmetry that, in the sector's assessment, puts pressure on formal traders.
