2027 school holidays will have new dates because of the Women’s Cup

The law that establishes measures for the 2027 Women's World Cup provides that school holidays coincide with the period of the competition and authorizes the decree of national holidays on game days for the Brazilian team. The rule applies to public and private schools. Brazil will host the event, which will take place between June 24th and July 25th, 2027. It is the first time that a South American country has hosted the competition.

The legislation guarantees the possibility for the federal government to declare national holidays on days when the Brazilian football team plays.

In addition, the federative units and cities that will host the games “may also declare a holiday or optional period on the days on which they take place in their territory”.

Matches are planned in Belo Horizonte (Estadio Mineirão), in Brasília (Estadio Nacional), in Fortaleza (Arena Castelão), in Porto Alegre (Estadio Beira-Rio), in Recife (Arena de Pernambuco), in Rio de Janeiro (Estadio do Maracanã), in Salvador (Arena Fonte Nova) and in São Paulo (Arena Itaquera).

The World Cup will have the participation of 32 teams (16 fewer than in the men's tournament), divided into eight groups for the first phase. In total, there is a schedule of 64 games. Brazil, as the host of the tournament, is automatically qualified to participate. The last edition took place in Australia and New Zealand and Spain won the title.
